Additional information:
Grace has been working and studying in this field for the last 10 years. The menstrual cycle is a deeply complex one, entrenched in shame and stigma which I believe to be a carefully and intentionally constructed form of oppression and disempowerment.
Whilst studying the menstrual cycle academically Grace’s interest in menarche solidified, with the understanding that menarche is a life transition with a lifelong impact. A positive experience at menarche can improve body literacy, self esteem and health outcomes. Raising Menstruation is an answer to the question, if menarche is so important, where is the re-education for parents to support their children through this?
Grace has a particular interest in menstrual shame and stigma and the context in which we experience menstruating in. Grace aims to consider what menstruation actually is, can it become central, and what an education to support this view looks like for our young people.
