Frome Contact Improvisation Dance

About:

Contact Improvisation is a somatic movement practice with its roots in contemporary dance and martial
arts. These are led sessions co-facilitated by Esther Dickinson and Rebecca Brewin, both experienced
dancers and movement teachers. By connecting to ground and the structure of the body in relation to
others we learn to move more freely and naturally in the world.

Suitable for:

Adults of any ability who would like to explore movement and contact in a safe contained environment.
Classes explore the relationship to the ground and others. All levels are welcome whether experienced or not. Those who use aids, i.e. wheelchairs/ walking frames are also welcome.

What to bring/wear:
  • Comfortable clothing for moving around in, appropriate for coming into contact with the floor and other members of the group.
  • No loose jewellery.
  •  Long Sleeves.
  • Water.
  •  No long nails. Hygiene – be clean as coming into close contact with others.
  • No strong smells i.e. aftershave or strong scented perfumes.

Additional information:

Rebecca – Rebecca is a British Wheel of Yoga registered yoga teacher. She trained in the Vanda Scaravelli approach to teaching through the YTTC in London, an intensive two-year training with Chloe Fremantle, Giovanni Felicioni, Pete Blackaby, Anne-Marie Zulkari and Neville Cregan. She has been teaching for over 15 years, is trained in community dance, is an experienced dance and contact improvisation practitioner. She is also an established poet and writer and has an MA in poetry from Bath Spa University.

Esther – During Esther’s childhood years she was a member of Susan Hill School of Dancing where she trained in Ballet and tap.
Later in life Esther discovered contemporary and contact dance, she has trained for many years in both. Esther has been involved with community dance projects. Particularly abroad when she formed part of AMEN (inclusive dance group, Barcelona), worked with
ArTransforma (Barcelona), and Danza Mobile, (Seville). She is a trained ETM instructor, and first aider. More recently Esther completed the Foundation Course in Dance Movement Psychotherapy with Roehampton University. Her continued personal practice and dedication to CI informs her facilitation
