Biodanza & Biotango Workshop
3rd June 2023 @ 12:00 - 17:00
About the workshop:
Enter the heart of dance without worrying about steps! This workshop features an introduction to two dance modalities from South America – Biodanza and Tango.
What is Biodanza?
Biodanza means Dance of Life. It comes from South America. It’s a way to feel more joy in life through music, movement and connection. It’s not a performance and there are no steps to learn, so you can’t do it wrong. Regular participants report feelings of wellbeing, more joy and confidence in life, and improved health and relationships. Not bad for a few hours dancing?
What is Biotango?
Biotango is the fusion of Argentine Tango with Biodanza. The aim of Biotango classes is to evoke the students’ creativity rather than have them copying sequences. Technical elements of Tango are presented in a playful way which encourage independent exploration. A key element is to connect movement with emotion which impacts the aesthetic of Tango dancing in a beautiful way. After all, Tango is born from the intention to embrace each other.
Why Biotango?
Tango has a high drop-out rate because of the frustration many dancers experience due to “not getting it right”. Biotango on the contrary strengthens the self-confidence, deepens the connection and offers practical tools that students can apply directly at the milonga. Biotango connects dance with life and shows how Tango can guide us in healing our relationships. Participants rapidly improve their capacity of dialogue, feel the music and dare to move from their soul. Not perfection, but pleasure & surrender stand in the centre.
There will be two sessions with a break for a shared lunch. You can book for either or both sessions. The café is open or you can bring food to share.
Valerie Kattenfeld has enjoyed her Tango education in Buenos Aires with the best teachers worldwide such as Emmanuel Casal, Yanina Muzyka, Alejandra Gutty or Mario Morales. She completed her Biodanza formation with Veronica Toro (the daughter of Biodanza founder Rolando Toro) & Raul Terren. In January 2022 she gave a TED talk about the “transformative power of Biodanza” in Patagonia. As the creator of the methodology of “Biotango” she has been invited to festivals & events in Argentina, USA & Europe since 2018. Students appreciate her unique approach that allow them to drop into their bodies and truly feel their Tango rather than think it.
Peter has been involved with Biodanza for many years and teaching since 2008. He studied with the original London School of Biodanza under Patricia Martello, attending workshops with Rolando Toro the creator of Biodanza and other international teachers, as well as travelling to Brazil to enrich his training. He helped to found the Dorset Biodanza Festival and the Dorset School of Biodanza. He has led classes and workshops at festivals, community centres, Greek island retreats and online. He is a founder member of the Association of Biodanza Teachers in the UK and loves to travel.
