Andrew Roberts is a British ‘plein air’ artist exploring paint, light, contemporary life and living.
Andrew’s rich and gestural paintings depict diverse landscapes across the UK and Europe. He does not choose his subjects and locations; they choose themselves. For Andrew it is all about accessibility, but not in the traditional sense. Rather accessibility is the result of the universe choosing the angle for him.
Painted outdoors in situ, ‘en plein air’, and always in square format, the works take on the physicality of their subjects through rich impasto surfaces, dynamic glazing techniques, and romantic, opulent palettes. They are highly evocative of the atmosphere of the landscape, captivating viewers and transporting them to another place and time.
For the artist, the paintings provide direct associations with experiences, triggering memories about the context in which they were created; these experiences are referenced in the anecdotal titles of respective works. Seemingly ambiguous, these titles offer intimate, literary narratives – a glimpse into the artist’s creative, and human experience. “For me painting is all about the process, the finished product is just the wake of it.”
Andrew’s current paintings have been painted all over UK in parts of Cornwall, Sussex, Surrey and Somerset, also on his recent trips to Brittany in France and Morocco.
We are thrilled to be able to showcase another solo show from this wonderful artist who last exhibited with us here in 2018 with his solo show ‘If Not Now, Then When’.
