Part of an ongoing series of gestural painterly monotypes full of movement, weather, air and space. Filtered memory, in combination with imagined and unseen places have been embedded and subsequently surface through exploration of layered colour and mark making. These paintings are used to explore the ‘Emotional Landscape’. They aim to offer a sense of perspective, invite reflection and utilise the restorative and hopeful aspects of nature. Capitalising on the chance mark, and working in layers of transparency to create depth, texture and form.

Currently on display in our gallery as part of the SOMERSET PRINTMAKERS exhibition showcasing the latest work by the members of this renowned group of professional artist/printmakers working in Somerset.

About the Artist

Gail Mason is an artist/printmaker based in North Somerset and works from her print studio in Spike Island, Bristol. Gail creates unique exuberant gestural silkscreen paintings which focus on the experience of a place or journey, real or imagined. Her work crosses boundaries between painting and printmaking and her stunning use of colour and layers of paint helps create her wonderfully emotive pieces of work. 

Gail is a recipient of several National Awards, a member of Somerset Printmakers, Bath Society Of Artists and the Royal West of England Academy Artists Network. Widely shown across the UK and London including the Mall Galleries, Bankside and selected for the Royal Academy.
